Reeve Yew’s name is increasingly becoming recognizable in the digital marketing industry. Undoubtedly, sharing the stage with Gary Vaynerchuk, Mark Joyner, and Brian Tracy has helped in growing his audience. But Reeve didn’t make it to this position by sheer luck. It’s his stubborn pursuit of acquiring knowledge and honing his skills that enabled him to build a digital empire at just 26 years old.
We feel honored for having Reeve Yew with us to talk about his story, struggles, and success.
1) Reeve, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk to us. Everyone now recognizes you for the digital empire you’ve built, but can you share with us how it all started?
My passion for digital marketing started during my early teenage years. I discovered dropshipping when I was 15 and decided to resell imported watches from China. Things took off almost immediately, and the next thing I knew, I was raking in $2,500 a month. This proved to be a defining moment for me as I learned that I could make money online and had a natural knack for it.
2) That’s an impressive feat, especially for a 15-year-old. What did you do after your dropshipping venture?
I was overwhelmed at the time, but I soon realized that one could lose money just as quickly. I decided to study web development by myself to build better websites for myself and extend my services to potential clients.
At this point, however, I was studying at Kings College London. I went through one of the most challenging times of my life in college. I struggled to make ends meet because I wasn’t landing any client. Thankfully, things turned around, and I was able to work with international clients. Over three months, I generated $27,000.
3) Given your early struggles in finding clients, what gave you the confidence to build a digital marketing agency?
People around me say that I’m persistently stubborn. I guess that’s true. I just refuse to give up even after several failed projects. I like to analyze why things don’t work out. This practice lets me master my craft. I’ve also believed in not conforming to the norm and blindly following what other people tell you throughout my life. As the adage goes, “master the rules and then break them.”
Some marketers may frown upon some of my marketing tactics, but I know for a fact that they work, no matter how unconventional they seem. It’s because I’ve used them myself and seen the results. This ultimately gave me the confidence to build Funnel Duo Media alongside my brother, Jackson.
4) I’m sure many aspiring digital marketers are looking up to you. What’s your message for them?
I want to tell all of you that it’s okay to fail. Just be sure that you know how to pick up the pieces and rebuild your puzzle. Don’t take any opportunity for granted and spend time absorbing as much knowledge as possible. In today’s digital age, you can’t afford to be a one-trick pony. So work smart and take a proactive approach in learning all facets of your digital marketing ventures.
